Orthodontic face mask:
Orthodontic face mask is a device used to help correct jaw and teeth problems. This device is usually worn on the upper jaw by connecting to braces or a headgear and applies a gentle force to the jaw and directs it to the right position. This device is used to achieve better results faster and often in cases of severe overbite or underbite (need to change the position of the jaw to the proper alignment). This tool is usually used to correct the condition of the teeth and jaws of 7-8 year old children due to the growing jaws of children and its easy effectiveness, and this device should be used at least 12 hours a day.
Constituent parts of orthodontic face mask:
Head cap, face frame and headgear connections are the three parts of the facemask. The body of the device consists of a central rod and plastic connections in front of the patient's mouth, which is connected to the patient's head. Then braces and other orthodontic tools are connected to these connections in the patient's mouth, and this creates a forward pulling force in the patient's upper jaw.
Treatment steps with orthodontic face mask:
1. Making a mold of the patient's upper jaw by the orthodontist and using it for about 1 to 2 months to create a suitable space in the patient's upper jaw.
Note: It is recommended to remove the mold from the patient's mouth only when eating and brushing teeth.
2. Rechecking the condition of the patient's mouth and teeth after the period of using this tool has passed and the orthodontist instructs the patient on how to use the face mask.
Note: The duration of the treatment is about 6 to 12 months, and the condition of the teeth will be checked during this period.
Advantages of orthodontic face mask:
1. Increasing the patient's self-confidence by improving the condition of the mouth and teeth
2. Reducing the possibility of tooth extraction
3. Eliminate or reduce the need for surgery in the future
4. Reducing the length of treatment with fixed orthodontic devices
5. Oral and dental health by correcting the condition of the jaw and teeth
Care during treatment:
1. Compliance with oral and dental hygiene
2. Keeping the device clean by using disinfectant pads or wet cloth
3. Not using food items such as gum, candy, or toffee when using a face mask
4. Regular visits to the orthodontist to check the condition of the jaw and teeth
